Trump Unveils $1.5 Trillion Infrastructure Plan. (02/13/2018)
President Trump’s announcement Monday of a $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan received mixed coverage, with many focusing on opposition from both sides of the aisle and questioning whether it will get enough support to pass.
The Washington Times (2/12, Miller) reports that Trump “pushed” the plan at a White House meeting “with a bipartisan group of state and local lawmakers, declaring that he would loosen the red tape that has a stranglehold on construction projects.” The Hill (2/12, Shelbourne) says the plan, which “would focus on public-private partnerships and funding from state and local governments,” is “structured around four main goals: generating $1.5 trillion for an infrastructure proposal, streamlining the permitting process down to two years, investing in rural infrastructure projects and advancing workforce training.”
